Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms  must be present from the occupation date.When your new tenant contract starts.

The new Renting Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) (Wales) Regulations 2022.

Where the contract-holder is already living in the property when the Act comes into force on 1 December 2022, the landlord must provide smoke alarms no later than 1 December 2023.

“You should make sure you have at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home, preferably in hallways and landings.

Placing smoke detectors near to sleeping areas and in rooms where there are electrical appliances could give you the extra warning you need.

All landlords in in England by law must put in place carbon and smoke detectors by the 1 October 2022.

The regulations above should be considered alongside other relevant fire laws.

Carbon monoxide safety in rented homes such as the Housing Act 2004, the Fire Safety Act 2021 and the Building Safety Act 2022.
